From my perspective, debate is a phenomenon of duality that encourages ARGUEMENT "for" and "against" a particular point of view. It fosters the need to prove why one view is "right", while another is "wrong". Your post reminds me of the question we've all heard asked, "Would you rather be right, or would you rather be at peace?"
